Letter from the President

Picture

Hello Friends,

It is my pleasure to write this short note of encouragement to those in the Pro-Life movement. There is much for us to celebrate. The Forty-Second annual March for Life was held this year in Washington, DC, and I take great pride in our chapter’s involvement in promoting and sending buses and young people to the event. It gives me hope for the future of our pro-life cause that so many young people participated in this year's March for Life!

The March for Life has taken place every year since the first anniversary of Roe v. Wade on January 22, 1974. That year, about 20,000 people rallied on the west steps of the U.S. Capitol, then marched in a "Circle of Life" around the Capitol Building before fanning out to lobby their Members of Congress, demanding action on behalf of the unborn.

From those relatively modest beginnings, the March for Life attendance set a record of 300,000 plus in 2009, in response to the election of President Obama (who was/is militantly pro-abortion and has since demonstrated unyielding support for the pro-abortion agenda).  Attendance continues to increase dramatically, with a new record attendance of an estimated 650,000-plus set in 2013. This year the crowd was estimated at 400,000 plus.

There is also need for hard work and vigilance. Our new Governor, Tom Wolf, announced Pedro Cortes as his nominee for Secretary of State, Mr Cortes previously served as Secretary of State under Governor Ed Rendell. The Secretary of State is responsible for professional and occupational licensure and oversight of any licensure complaints. It was during his previous tenure as Secretary of State that the terrible events of the Dr. Kermit Gosnell situation in Philadelphia occurred. Please pray for Secretary Cortes, and also consider writing the Secretary to encourage more vigilance in the licensure and oversight of abortion clinics in Pennsylvania.

Be vigilant friends!  Be thankful for all we have accomplished and be humble in asking for help in all that is yet to be done in the effort to defend life from conception to natural death.

Yours in Life!

Allen McCormack
